MFWA 2018 Day 7 Fashion shows & Mercedes Benz reception
Gagliardi never disappoints when it comes to style and quality. At Malta Fashion week 2018, Gagliardi presented us with the Autumn/Winter 2018 collection which was centred around the beautiful city of Milan.
The large variety of looks from the classic looking businessman, to the classy and casual wear to the sharp looking outfit for a bow tie event. When it comes to material and quality, Gagliardi certainly works with the finest to not only make the men look good but also feel comfortable. I was mainly taken by the use of soft tones as the shade of pink/coral which I know that many men may be hesitant on wearing. However, the suit that was shown to us on the runway was pieced together in such a manner that it was not only pleasing to the eye but gave the male model the same elegant and bold look as the darker shades.
When it comes to menswear, I am a huge fan of vests. To me it seems like it gives the right amount of a smart look, but also gives the overall look a touch of casual. This collection without a doubt, had quite the variety of vests being showcased, to be worn for different occasions. Take a look at some of the items by Gagliardi below:
Ritienne Zammit, whose work is being worn by the model, Claire Ciantar, on the cover of Malta Fashion Week 2018, is definitely no stranger to Malta Fashion Week and the public. This year, Ritienne presented to us her collection “ATRONYMIC”, which focuses on the maltese family names.
Ritienne’s work had a theme of using Malta’s heritage and culture revolving and stimulating her collection. In my opinion, this is one of the most outstanding aspects of her work. Her work always reminds the Maltese, and teaches the foreigners, on the importance of acknowledging and remembering heritage and where it is that we came from. In a time where so much happens so fast, most of the time, we do not take the time to appreciate where it all began for us, and it is designers like Ritienne that help us remember.
Each piece stood for a specific surname together with a motif. The items were very bold and diverse in terms of the shapes and her stunning use of prints on her work. Her prints were inspired by several Maltese coats-of-arms which were presented in both black and white as well as vibrant colours. Take a look at some of her pieces:
MFWA 2018 Day 7 Mercedes Benz reception
As a conclusion to Malta Fashion week 2018, Mercedes Benz had a reception, which allowed guests, as well as all participants to truly lay back and take a breath from all the eventful days. With food and drinks going around, it created the perfect atmosphere for everyone to truly relax and network, which to me is the perfect way to finish off a hectic week, which was also one that will stay with all of us!
The Malta Fashion Awards MFWA 2018
This year, it was the 20th Anniversary of The Malta Fashion Awards & the 8th edition of Malta Fashion Week. Adrian J Mizzi is the man who started the Malta Fashion Week & Awards 20 years ago. Adrian was just a man with a dream and on 2nd June 2018, we were all there to celebrate his dream which has become a reality for the past 20 years.
Malta is filled with young and creative minds, but unfortunately many of such minds do not feed their passions. Most of the time, people give in to the words others tell them of them not succeeding, some stand under the shadow of the fear of failure, but a few push through all doubt and fears as they make their dream the most important thing in their life.
My experience at Malta Fashion Week & Awards 2018 was an incredible one. I was surrounded by people who are passionate and are focused on their dreams. People who are not there to compete but were there to share their passion with the rest. This is why I love my work and I truly feel lucky to have had the chance to be amongst others who are simply so focused on their work that they have no time to look around and feel like they must compete with anyone. Their love towards their work and that driving passion to better themselves, for themselves, to express themselves through their work, is what matters to them.
